One Greater Manchester club fields an non-professional vets team with nine ex- top-flight footballers in their active lineup.

222 Premier League Goals, 325 International Appearances

Wythenshawe Vets Over 35s are located in south the city and play in the Cheshire Vets Division Premier Tier.

The lineup this campaign features 9 former top-flight footballers, with a total over 1,800 elite games.

Such is the bench strength at Wythenshawe, Niasse had his first game at defender.

"It's a bit different but then, I love sprinting and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"The movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

Unreal Experience

Along with Cisse's six goals on debut, Stephen Ireland has scored eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored five on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a defender by position, scored a triple in one match up front.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Tier with three wins from three and a goal difference of plus nineteen.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced ex- Latics defender Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to tell his nine-year-old son who Heskey was.

Figueroa has played at two World Cups for Honduras, in addition to playing in more than two hundred top-flight games.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had all these former top-flight stars," said the player.

"I felt I was a little starstruck facing him to be honest.

"Also Heskey came on and he's got 60-odd English caps.

"We held our own for a good twenty minutes but then we had a player dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group really have not stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mother and sibling on the journey home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of normal fellas.

"Now we are eager for the return fixture."
